BT and I met in the most unexpected way — at a wedding in Ibadan in 2024 ❣️
Funny thing is, neither of us was even meant to be there.
I was buried in schoolwork, stressed, and honestly not in the mood for travel. The trip almost didn’t happen. But somehow, I made it.
BT on the other hand… well, BT does not “go out.” Not to talk of road trips. Not to talk of weddings. Not to talk of weddings in Ibadan. But he says he got a *nudge*. And if you know him, you know that when he says “nudge,” it means something.
So he drove all the way to Ibadan.
The wedding was at IITA, and if you’ve been there, you know the distance from the gate to the venue is not a joke. Everyone had to check in at the gate before proceeding inside. I was there, trying to figure out logistics — when BT showed up.
Depending on who tells the story, either the security suggested he give me a ride… or he just decided to be a gentleman ☺️. Either way, he offered to drop me at the venue.
And just like that, we drove down that long IITA road together, navigating directions and making small talk.
Nothing dramatic. Nothing cinematic. Just a simple conversation.
And then… I gave him my LinkedIn.
Yes. LinkedIn.
(Here’s BT interrupting 🧐)
Who gives LinkedIn at a wedding? 🤨 I didn’t even get a phone number. I got LinkedInnnnnnn. Corporate love story 😩
Back to Rose.
We started chatting on LinkedIn. It was interesting. Thoughtful. Different. After a while, he asked for my WhatsApp number — apparently because he struggles with replying messages and doesn’t even have LinkedIn notifications turned on (he says he’s getting better).
Days turned into weeks. Weeks into months.
The second time we ever saw each other in person was at the airport — the day I was leaving the country for the first phase of my PhD exchange. That was it. First meeting: wedding gate. Second meeting: airport goodbye.
And then… nine months of longggggg distance.
Chats. Video calls. Deep conversations. Laughter. Growth. (MTN probably noticed the data usage from BT)
Somewhere in those nine months, something steady was forming.
On his 30th birthday, BT decided to travel to see me abroad. What was meant to be a visit turned into something much more meaningful. We talked — really talked. We explored new places together. We shared new experiences, many of them firsts for both of us. We bonded in ways that only time, distance, and intentionality can build.
Somewhere between airport goodbyes, late-night calls, and long walks in unfamiliar cities, we knew this was no longer just a conversation. It was purpose unfolding.
For BT, he says he saw in me someone who complements him — his personality, his vision, his calling. For me, I saw in him a steady, thoughtful man who leads with conviction but also listens with humility.
He says I’m kind and thoughtful. I say he’s intentional and courageous (because driving to Ibadan on a nudge is courageous in my books).
What started with a ride from a gate turned into a journey neither of us could have planned.
And now, here we are — grateful for the nudge, the LinkedIn exchange, the airport goodbye, the long-distance season, and every step that brought us here.
This is our story. And we can’t wait to begin the next chapter together ❣️
We’re coming … checking history 😂
